Supply Chain Issues, New Workforce Resource

Letter to White House Addressing Supply Chain Issues for Restaurants

The National Restaurant Association and several of its members recently met with representatives from the White House Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force regarding the supply chain challenges restaurants are facing.

As an outcome of that meeting, the Association sent a letter to President Biden highlighting how supply chain challenges and inflation are weighing down restaurant industry rebuilding and asks for help in creating solutions that will have a lasting impact.

Specifically, the letter touches on our workforce challenges, including the need for comprehensive immigration reform and expansion of employment opportunities. It also addresses transportation and shipping constraints, including the need for more truck drivers and support for programs for younger drivers as outlined in the DRIVE-Safe Act. Finally, our letter addresses the need to give relief to companies by eliminating tariffs and better utilizing import capabilities.

Separately, the Association also signed onto a letter led by the International Food Distributors Association (IFDA), and many of our friends in the transportation space, which addresses some of our transportation supply chain challenges.

OSHA ETS Vaccine Mandate Update

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) has concluded their review of Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS). That means OIRA has concluded stakeholder meetings and could release the ETS at any time.

We are closely tracking and will keep you posted. Once it is published in the Federal Register, the standard will be effective, but we do expect there to be a ramp up period of time included in the rule allowing employers to reach compliance.
