State of Illinois Issues Mask Mandate, Effective Monday

Today, Governor Pritzker and IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike announced that all Illinois residents over the age of two will be required to wear a mask in all indoor settings, effective Monday, August 30. The requirement is applicable to both vaccinated and unvaccinated residents statewide. The Governor also imposed a vaccine mandate for all public school teachers and staff (Pre K-12), higher education personnel, and higher education students.

While face coverings are not required outdoors, masks are strongly encouraged in crowded outdoor settings like festivals and concerts as well as for activities that require close contact with people who are not vaccinated.

"Restaurants’ top priorities continue to be the health and safety of their guests and team members. The state’s mask mandate is a pragmatic approach that will allow restaurants to remain fully open and safely serve diners across Illinois. Our industry can’t afford to slide backwards into further mitigations. To stay open and on a path to recovery, we need everyone to do their part by getting vaccinated, masking up, and taking necessary precautions."
