IRA on New Sexual Harassment Prevention Law, Training Offerings for Industry

This week, Eater Chicago outlined the new Workplace Transparency Act - omnibus legislation recently signed into law by Governor Pritzker - that addresses sexual harassment in the workplace in Illinois. The bill requires all employers to provide sexual harassment prevention training to their employees. The state will develop free model training for employers. 

For restaurants and bars, the state will also provide free, industry-specific model training. Illinois bars and restaurants will be required to have a sexual harassment policy that includes details on how to report allegations internally and how to file a charge with the state Department of Human Rights.

“The restaurant industry, like all others, is ready to confront the challenges of sexual harassment in the workplace,” said Illinois Restaurant Association President & CEO Sam Toia. Click here to read more from Eater Chicago. 

The IRA will be providing additional guidance and resources regarding this legislation closer to the effective date.
