Cashless Ban in Chicago? IRA Testifies, Committee Holds Ordinance
Thursday, December 7, 2017
Yesterday, the City of Chicago Committee on License and Consumer Protection considered a proposed ordinance from Alderman Ed Burke (14th) that would ban restaurants and retail establishments from going cashless.
IRA President & CEO Sam Toia, Aaron Langguth, R & D and Facilities Manager at Epic Burger, and Tamar Mizrahi Stone, Owner of Goddess and the Baker each testified in opposition to this ordinance. Sam, Aaron, and Tamar explained the decision to go cashless is a practical business decision that should be allowed to restaurants if they choose.
The ordinance was not called for a vote in committee, and did not advance to the full City Council. The next Committee on License and Consumer Protection meeting has not yet been scheduled.
