This week, Alderman David Moore (17th) introduced an ordinance that would require every licensed business with a public restroom - including restaurants, bars, hotels and retail stores - to make washrooms available to individuals who have an emergency, without having to make a purchase, or pay a fee.
IRA President & CEO Sam Toia explained to the Chicago Sun-Times that the ordinance is burdensome on small businesses, and it does not consider situations where restaurants and shops may be flooded with thousands of passerbys at once, like after a Chicago Cubs game, summer festival, or parade.
