The City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection has released the new minimum wage rate for tipped employees in the City of Chicago effective July 1, 2017: $6.10 per hour, up from $5.95 per hour in the past year. Per the ordinance, this increase was determined by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), or cost of living increase, of not more than 3%. The minimum wage for nontipped employees will increase to $11,00 per hour, up from $10.50 per hour in the past year.

Employers should take all necessary steps to ensure that their tipped employees are compensated at a wage rate of at least $6.10 per hour as of July 1, 2017.
