Catherine De Orio
Catherine De Orio is a recovering attorney who left her burgeoning career in the courtroom for one in the kitchen. She is a formally trained chef, lifestyle expert, spokesperson, journalist, web editor and public speaker.
She attended culinary school in Chicago while still working as a litigator. Her unique blend of culinary, creative and oratory skills caught the eye of executives at Sara Lee Corporation and she was hired as their media spokesperson (and culinary consultant) in 2006. On their behalf and others, she has done over 600 appearances on every major network including NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, CW and WGN with spots on The Today Show, Better TV, The Rachael Ray Show and Cooking Channel. Additionally, she has been a guest on over 250 radio shows including Martha Stewart Radio and What’s cooking?
Catherine has worked as a spokesperson for major corporations and brands including Sara Lee Corporation, Ballpark hotdogs, Jimmy Dean, Gallo Salame, Earthgrains Bread, Bryan Foods, Hillshire Farm, Senseo Coffee, Godiva Coffee, Revolution Tea, Disney and Crate & Barrel.
From 2007-2010 Catherine was Editor-at-large for In Touch Weekly magazine covering everything from Jennifer Aniston’s favorite dining spots in Chicago to Gwyneth Paltrow’s tips for staying fit. She has also written for, amongst others, Time Out Chicago, CS, CS Brides, Daily Candy, Huffington Post, Star, US Weekly, 944, iVillage, First for Women, on topics ranging from how to throw the perfect bridal brunch to Fergie’s diet secrets. Currently she is a monthly contributor to the dining section of VEGAS magazine. She has been cited as a food expert in various newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, and too many blogs to count.
Her down-to-earth personality and energetic delivery makes her a favorite at live engagements. Catherine has done live cooking demonstrations and speaking engagements for crowds ranging from 25-2500 at private events, various Food & Wine festivals across the country and such prestigious conferences like BlogHer. In 2006-2007, she even cooked out of an RV throughout the West Coast and South to help raise money for America’s Second Harvest, a national food bank network--one might say she was ahead of the food truck trend!
When not traveling the country to dish on the food scene, she is developing recipes, consulting on events and staying on top of the current food trends. In response to repeated requests, she is set to launch two websites in Fall 2011: Culinarycurator.com, a portal to all things culinary and Glamourgrub.com, a how-to site for creating fabulous fetes.
