|Springfield Lobby Day 2016|
In March 2016, the IRA joined IHLA and ICCVB for our Springfield Lobby Day. The events included a dinner with legislators on Tuesday night and a full day of meetings and lobbying efforts in the Capitol Building on Wednesday. Lobby Day concluded with a legislative reception with dozens of the members of the General Assembly and Governor Bruce Rauner in attendance.
Wednesday began with a speaker program and a legislative update session. Senate President John Cullerton, Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno, and Director of the Illinois Office of Tourism Cory Jobe addressed budget issues and advancing Illinois' tourism industry with a crowd of over 100 members of the restaurant, hospitality, and tourism industries.
Throughout the day, the IRA met with influential leaders in both legislative chambers, including House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie, Deputy Majority Leader Lou Lang, Assistant Majority Leader Sara Feigenholtz, Assistant Majority Leader Art Turner, House Republican Leader Jim Durkin, and Assistant Majority Leader Tony Muñoz.
The central issues discussed included statewide labor standards, maintaining tourism funding, a proposed soda tax, and the state budget.
We also had several newcomers join the IRA delegation in 2016. Thank you to all who attended, and we look forward to bringing an even bigger group to Springfield in 2017.
