This week, Chicago City Council voted to approve a car-sharing pilot program administered by Car2Go, which will allow drivers to rent cars that can be picked up in one part of the city and dropped off in another. It is similar to the Divvy bike-share system, except that the cars can be returned to any legal parking space, and not a special station.
The ordinance, introduced by Ald. Joe Moreno (1st), allows Austin-based Car2Go to start business in the city on May 1 through at least the end of the year. The program could extend on a month-to-month basis through June 2019 if the Council takes no action to end it.
The IRA recently expressed our full support of the pilot program to the City Council. Click here to read more from the Chicago Tribune.
