As of December 1, 2017, the Cook County Sweetened Beverage Tax is no longer in effect. After December 1, there may be unsold product in restaurants on which tax was previously remitted to distributors. Both distributors and retailers may request a credit or refund. Refund procedures vary depending on if a retailer remitted the tax to distributors, remitted the floor tax, and other scenarios.
