|Springfield Lobby Day 2017|
In March 2017, the IRA joined IHLA and ICCVB for our Springfield Lobby Day. The events included a dinner with legislators on Monday night and a full day of meetings and lobbying efforts in the Capitol Building on Tuesday. Lobby Day concluded with a legislative reception with dozens of the members of the General Assembly and Governor Bruce Rauner in attendance.
Tuesday began with a speaker program and a legislative update session. Senate President John Cullerton and Representative Ann Williams, Chair of the House Tourism, Hospitality, and Craft Industries Committee addressed budget issues and advancing Illinois' tourism industry with a crowd of over 100 members of the restaurant, hospitality, and tourism industries.
Throughout the day, the IRA met with influential leaders in both legislative chambers, including House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie, Deputy Majority Leader Art Turner, Assistant Majority Leader Sara Feigenholtz, House Republican Leader Jim Durkin, and Assistant Majority Leader Tony Muñoz.
The central issues discussed included a soda tax, $15 minimum wage, mandated paid sick leave, maintaining tourism funding, and allergen training.
This group was the largest Springfield delegation in recent years. Thank you to all who attended, and we look forward to bringing an even bigger group to Springfield in 2018.
